Friday February 12, 2010-Butterscotch Pie and Lots of $$$$

It was -23C (-9F) with windchill this morning so I elected not to go out. It's still sunny and bright though.

Since it was so cold, Gordon decided that the truck would probably make it to the dealership so he drove rather than have it towed. He had made an appointment for 9:15 a.m. He called me to let me know that the water pump needed to be replaced which turned out to be $950. They had us prepared for $1200 so the $950 was actually a pleasant surprise. I think they do that on purpose. That wasn't in the budget but these things never are!

Dee commented that she can't believe we haven't heard from the lawyer in Buffalo. Actually I got a letter this week with a copy of a letter from the Executive Office for Immigration Review stating that they acknowledged his request for a copy of the file and they would comply within 30 days. Their letter was dated January 27th so hopefully by the beginning of March my lawyer will have my file. There will probably be more charges for copying the file.

I had purchased some gluten free pie crusts yesterday so today I made Gordon's mother's recipe for Butterscotch Pie. Luckily Gordon's daughter, Michelle had the recipe and she had given it to me some time ago but this is the first time that I had made it. Since I had to use gluten free flour it didn't set very well so next time I think I'll do what Michelle does and use corn starch. It tasted good though!

Thursday February 11, 2010-Nancy's New Car

It was back to -17 C (1F) windchill this morning. I was warm enough on my walk except for my face and it wasn't too bad. It didn't get much warmer during the day although it was bright and sunny.

I went out for some groceries this morning and then just relaxed for the rest of the day. I got our bills input into my spreadsheet. Nancy came home around 4:30 p.m. and asked me if I wanted to go with her to pick up her new car - a shiny new Pontiac Torrent. So away we went and traded in her Saturn Vue.

When Gordon backed the truck out of the driveway to let Nancy in he noticed that it's leaking something so I guess it will be towed to a dealership tomorrow to see what the problem is. He said he thought it was antifreeze. I think the truck hates the cold weather as much as we do!

Today's photo was taken by Gordon yesterday when we were out on the Jack Pine Trail.

Wednesday February 10, 2010-A Full Day

Today was balmy compared to what it's been lately. The temperature got up to 0C (32F) this morning so it was quite nice for my walk.

Since this is cleaning day, we decided to head out to the Jack Pine Trail and leave Margaret to do her cleaning without us in the way. We saw lots of little creatures but no deer! My sister and her husband were there last week and saw two deer, we only saw squirrels, chickadees and nuthatches but it was fun anyway.

A chickadee pecking at seeds that I dropped on the snow.
\This is part of the boardwalk trail except the boardwalk is snow covered.

A chickadee and a nuthatch on a tree stump. People put seeds in the stump for the birds and the squirrels.

And here's the nuthatch with the squirrel peering from behind him.

Nuthatch feasting on seeds from my mitten.

Two chickadees taking their turn.

Then it was off to find this stand of white birches. Gordon had seen them when he was out with his photographer friend, Jim but we hadn't been able to find them. Well, today we did!

We got back early afternoon and Nancy arrived home shortly after. She had started physiotherapy yesterday and it had caused her more pain so she came home.

We had an early dinner and then headed downtown to see and photograph the ice sculptures at Winterlude. I got another chance to use my tripod. I have to say the ice sculptures weren't as nice as they used to be overall but there were a few that were well done. Also the lighting I didn't think was as nice as it usually is but it's been five years since we've been there so I could have just forgotten!

This dragon was nicely lighted.

A two headed python - scary thought!

I think this was a sea monster. It looked like 'Nessie'.

An ice bench - lots of kids were sitting on it getting their picture taken but I managed to get a shot when no one was on it.

This is the only saguaro I'm going to be seeing this winter!

I need to straighten out a couple of things from yesterday's post. First of all, my pension is not with Nortel. I took my money in a lump sum when I left so all I have with them is my health and dental benefits and no. the Canadian Government does not supply these benefits. These are extended health benefits over and above what the government pays for. The government does not provide dental or prescription coverage, vision care etc. Prescription coverage, however, does come under government care at age 65 but not all prescriptions are covered but that's a whole 'nother story.

Tuesday February 9, 2010-Town Hall Meeting

It was pretty cold again today when I went for my walk but my new mittens worked really well. My hands were sweating!

This afternoon I went to a Town Hall Meeting put on by the NRPC (Nortel Retirees Protection Canada). There were four speakers and it did get pretty heated at one point but I did find out that we will have health & dental benefits till the end of this year. That was what I wanted to know.

Those pensioners who collect a monthly pension from Nortel are guaranteed only $1000/month (top up only) from the Ontario Government but that will be quite a shortfall for most if there is no amendment to the Bankruptcy Insolvency Act (BIA). It's all too complicated for my little brain but it's something that no pensioner should have to face. The NRPC are lobbying all politicians to get these changes made.

While I was there Gordon went shooting photos. This mallard is one of the photos he took today.

Monday February 8, 2010-Trip to the RV

Well it was -19C (-2F) (wind chill) when I set out for my walk. It was cold and the wind was nasty but the only thing that was cold was my nose. I tried my best to only breathe through my nose so my glasses wouldn't fog up.

After breakfast I decided to make up the gluten free tea biscuits that I had purchased the other day. The mix comes in a box. They turned out really good - light and fluffy. Gordon is wondering what he did to warrant bread and tea biscuits in the last two days.

Randy asked the other day what books I've been reading. Here's a list of what I've read over the last couple of months:

Karen Robards-Beachcomber; Heartbreaker
Nora Roberts-Time Was; MacGregor Grooms
Dorothy Galock-Song of the Road
Philip Margolin-Ties That Bind (reading now)
Sandra Brown-Send No Flowers
V.C. Andrews-Heaven; Broken Flower; Darkest Hour; Pearl in the Mist
David Baldacci-Saving Faith (didn’t like it); Absolute Power
James Lee Burke-Elysian Fields
Harlen Coben-The Woods; Just One Look
Margaret Maron-Sand Sharks
Julie Garrand-Shadow Music
Mary Higgins Clark-Daddy’s Little Girl
Iris Johansen-No One to Trust
Faye Kellerman-The Burnt House
David Rosenfelt-Open & Shut
Anne Rivers Siddons-The House Next Door; Nora, Nora
Stuart Woods-Grass Roots

We had lunch and then took the long way out to the RV. I wanted to pick up a few things that we were running out of and I knew we had in the RV. We went through the countryside and took some photos along the way.

The Old Almonte Road

A couple of scenes along the way

A group of old log barns with a rail fence in the foreground

I got what I needed from the RV, then we stopped at the Superwalmart in Carleton Place since there isn't one in Ottawa and Gordon bought a pair of lined pants to wear outside on cold days and I got some extra warm mittens. They don't make them for ladies apparently so I got a pair of large in boy's size. I'll hopefully get to test them out tomorrow.

Now if I could just get a nose warmer.......

Sunday February 7, 2010-Meeting an Old Friend

No walk again this morning -23C (-9F) with wind chill was way too cold for me.

I had made arrangements with a friend that I haven't seen for about 18 years to meet up with her at the Carlingwood Mall this afternoon. I found her on Facebook a couple of months ago. It was so good to see her and she looks wonderful! We got caught up on each other's lives but all too soon I had to get on the road so I wouldn't have to drive home in the dark. Hopefully I'll see her again later this year when the weather is better.

Today was cold but bright and sunny again.

I had my camera hanging around my neck but completely forgot to take a photo! I've gotten out of the habit lately.

Saturday February 6, 2010-More Bread

Well, I bit the bullet and went for my walk this morning but it was cold, sunny but cold. This is the first morning that my glasses fogged up so much that I had to take them off till they cleared, then they fogged up again. If we have to stay up here again next winter at least I won't have that problem after my cataract operation.

I spent most of the day reading but I did make Gordon another loaf of bread so at least I did something worthwhile today.

Nancy went to visit a friend who lives in a small town about an hour south of here and is staying overnight. She took Max with her so we're by ourselves for the first time in a while. It feels odd!

Last night Gordon went to the opening night of Winterlude to take photos of the fire works. Winterlude is a yearly event up here.

I borrowed one of his fire works photos for my blog tonight. There hasn't been much worth taking photos of lately.

Friday February 5, 2010-Another Ho Hum Day!

It was way too cold to walk this morning but it turned into a fairly nice day with lots of bright sunshine.

All I did today was go out and pick up some stuff we needed, then back home to prepare dinner and then an evening of TV.

Thursday February 4, 2010-Trip to Smiths Falls

It was -16C (3F) but bright and sunny when I went for my walk this morning. Thank goodness there was no wind chill but even without it, it was still pretty cold.

Late morning we started to get ready to go to the Dodge dealer in Smiths Falls about 45 minutes away. We were leaving early so we could have breakfast at our favourite restaurant there, The Roosterant. We arrived about 11:15 a.m. as they stop serving breakfast at 11:30 so we were able to get breakfast.

Lots of roosters at the Roosterant

I have been looking at some houses in this town as they are still fairly inexpensive and a reasonable drive to Carleton Place, Ottawa, Brockville and Kingston. Here is one of the houses we looked at.

These houses are mostly bungalow or 1 1/2 storey houses much like the ones built for the servicemen when they returned from WWII. This one was very cute from the outside however you don't have a street in front of the house. The street is more like an alley at the back of the house and that's where the garage is. The lots are very small. There is no real sidewalk at the front either but they had plowed a sidewalk like area. All the houses were well kept.

We're just looking at options in case this immigration problem doesn't turn out in our favour.

The truck went in for service (which was our main reason for going to Smiths Falls) and got the oil changed and a tail light changed and a few other minor things. We were home just in time for Max to go for his walk with Will, his walker.

It did warm up to -5C (23F) when we were on our way home.

Wednesday February 3, 2010-New Followers

It was snowing lightly when I left for my walk this morning but it was a beautiful morning for a walk. The sun was trying to shine and we eventually did get some sun later in the day. The snow also stopped and we didn't get any significant accumulation.

The housecleaner came this morning and I spent the day reading. I read almost a whole book today.

I see I have three new followers. Welcome, folks!

And that was it for my day!

Tuesday February 2, 2010-Webinar

It was cold this morning but I decided to go for my walk anyway. I dressed warmly and had no problem being out in the frigid temperatures.

After breakfast the first item on the agenda was to get some groceries. So four stops and several frustrations later, I was home with the groceries.

On to the next frustration. I retired from Nortel. My retirement provides me with health benefits but I took my pension in a lump sum (thankfully). Nortel filed bankruptcy proceedings last January and have sold off most of the companies within. This afternoon the Nortel Retirees Protection Canada was having a 'webinar' together with the lawyers representing the pensioners.

First I tried using Firefox on the PC part of my Mac. I could see the slides but no audio. I switched back to Mac and tried two browsers, still no luck so I put in a ticket to the IT people supporting the webinar. I was told I needed to use Internet Explorer. I hate Internet Explorer! So back to my PC side. I tried to open IE and kept getting an error so I downloaded the new IE. By this time over an hour of the conference had passed. When I downloaded the new IE, I got a window saying I was dangerously low on space on my hard drive. I ignored that and eventually got in to the conference. Now I remember what working was like! I did get some answers with respect to my health benefits and the news isn't good. It looks like we're covered till the end of March. We're not sure what happens after that. I have a Town Hall meeting to go to next week so maybe I'll find out more. This one is in person!

It's just been one of those days!

Monday February 1, 2010-Eye Surgeon

If my Dad was still alive he would have been 97 today. Unfortunately he passed away in 1988 of bladder cancer. I'm still thinking of you Dad!

It was too cold again this morning to walk. I really, really hate winter!

Today was the day I had my first appointment with the eye surgeon who is doing my cataract surgery. I really liked him. He said they suck the cataract off the eye (not his words) and replace the lens with a prescription lens that matches my prescription so I should have close to 20/20 vision for distance. He said he could do one eye for distance and one for reading but I said I didn't think I'd like that and I'm ok with using glasses for reading. He gives me a signed form to take to the license bureau to get my license reissued showing I don't have to wear glasses to drive anymore. Since I have such poor vision, he's going to do the eyes two weeks apart so the soonest they can be done is August 4th & 18th. I am on a cancellation list but the receptionist didn't think I could get an earlier appointment due to the two week time frame. Most people wait 4-6 weeks between appointments for cataract removal. Anyway, now that I have the appointment scheduled I'm ok with that even though it will probably interfere with our cottage weekend in Lindsay. I'll have to do a couple of follow ups with the eye surgeon after the cataracts are removed so I'll have to stay in Ottawa. I'll just be happy to have it done!

On our way home we stopped and picked up another gluten free bread mix. Gordon has really enjoyed his bread so we're taking advantage of the breadmaker while we have it!

Sunday January 31, 2010-I'm a Zombie

I was such a zombie all day today. Last night I slept from about 11 p.m. to 1:15 a.m. then got up to check on Nancy's flight. Being Virgos, we decided not to trust what we saw online and headed for the airport arriving there around 2:10 a.m. Wow, what a change! We have a real airport now! When we were last there it was a mickey mouse airport. I had thought about taking my camera but decided that they might be paranoid about people taking photos in the airport so left it at home.

When we arrived we saw that Nancy's plane was delayed and would not arrive till 4:02 a.m. It was originally scheduled to be in just before 3 a.m. so we wandered around and looked at the new airport, found an open Tim Horton's so Gordon could have a coffee. Her flight arrived right at 4:02 a.m. and after clearing customs and putting on some warmer clothes that I had brought we were on our way home. We had to stop for Nancy to get her Tim Horton's fix on the way. There's no Tim Horton's on the Mayan Riviera!

Max was so excited to see his Mommy. He was running around in circles and kissing everybody!

I returned to bed just before 6 a.m. Gordon headed downtown to do some photography. I was up again around 11 a.m. and since it had warmed up a bit I dragged myself out for my walk.

After breakfast I lay down to read and fell asleep for a couple of hours, awoke groggy but I had planned macaroni and cheese for dinner so had to get that made along with some chicken thighs. Dinner is now over and I'm still groggy. I don't do well without my 11 p.m. - 8 a.m. sleep!

Saturday January 30th-This 'n That

I was asked in the comments if the people with the RVs on the ice fish out of them. I don't know but I would doubt it. I think the object of the fishing shacks is to cut a hole in the ice and be able to build a fire to keep warm but what do I know? I've been inside a fishing shack but never actually fished. I have no idea why the RVs were out on the ice unless people actually go for the weekend and live in them. That would be my best guess.

Way too cold again this morning for walking so just curled up by the fire and read.

This afternoon we went out and fueled the truck up and did a cursory wash. We're picking Nancy up at the airport tonight, or rather tomorrow morning around 3 a.m. Think of me getting out of bed to go to the airport but it's the least we can do for Nancy!

When I was reading RV Travel today I came across a piece that sounded very familiar. The link took me here to a piece that I had written in November on RV Travel.com.

It's under 'Check out these RV Travel Forum discussions' on the RV Travel page .

Friday January 29, 2010-Library

It was way too cold to walk this morning -21C (-6F) with a windchill of -36C (-33F) but it was bright and sunny.

I finished my last library book this morning so a trip to the library for restocking was in order. Gordon offered to drive. I wanted to go to the library in Bells Corners which is the one I used to go to when I lived here. I also needed to stop at the bank so that was first on the agenda then off to the library. It was closed. I had to make a stop to pick up some Gaviscon as well then we stopped by the Nepean Sailing Club to see about taking some photos.

Tree shadows

We stopped at another couple of spots as well and took some photos of these fishing huts on the Ottawa River. Note the little RV trailer on the ice.

This is Lois Ave. I thought it should be called Lois Lane.

RVs and fishing huts on the Ottawa River

On the way back to Kanata we stopped at another library - not open till 1 p.m. so we went to the Hazeldean Mall and Gordon had a coffee while I picked up a few items, one of which was Smucker's grape jelly so Gordon could have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with the bread I made yesterday. We put in time there till the library was open and I got restocked. I should be good for a couple more weeks now.

I got an email from Nancy yesterday. She's having a good time and really likes the resort she's staying in. Unfortunately I wasn't online when she was so I couldn't talk to her on Yahoo. She said it cost $10 for 20 minutes to get online.

This afternoon was spent just doing the usual - TV. I've become addicted to The Doctors and Dr. Oz!

January 28, 2010-Snow Squalls & Bread

I managed to go on my walk this morning. It was probably the warmest part of the day. It was -4C (25F) when I got up this morning and now it's -11C (12F) and windy.

It's nice to know it's 26C (79F) and sunny where Nancy is!

I was sitting on the couch around 1 p.m. when I heard a loud wind. I looked outside and this is what I saw.

I went upstairs and took some photos from the front window. You could hardly see across the street.

Looking down at the truck in the driveway from the living room window.

After that squall, the sun came out so I cleaned off the back deck. An hour or so later it happened again so I wound up cleaning the deck off again.

Today I got the bread made. Here's the package that it comes in. Judy's mixes are made near here and Gordon swears it's the best bread he's had even when he could eat gluten.

And here's what it looked like when it came out of the breadmaker.

It definitely turned out better in the breadmaker. It doesn't usually rise that much when I make it in the oven.

Other than cleaning off the front walk and steps, reading and watching TV, that about makes up my day.

Wednesday January 27, 2010-News from Lawyer

Last night I started with the reflux problems again and I'm still taking 2 Nexium/day so I'm not sure what else can be done at this point. If it continues I'll have to go see my doctor.

I didn't pick up the mail yesterday. When I went out this morning to get it there was a letter from the Immigration lawyer. He has requested my files from the Executive Office for Immigration Review in Virginia and from the USCIS National Record Center (whatever that is). I'll just have to trust in his knowledge.

Today the house cleaner came so the house is clean again, not that it was dirty to begin with. After that I headed out to the post office as I had something that had to be signed and mailed back to the lawyer. I also picked up the yeast for making Gordon's bread so hopefully I'll get that done and the breadmaker put away before Nancy gets back. Bread makers take up a lot of room which is why I didn't bring mine in the RV.

Lost started last night with a two hour episode so I was glued to the TV!

No walk today, didn't feel up to it. It was a nice day though, we had some sun and some snow flurries and it wasn't overly cold, around -2C (28F).

Tuesday January 26, 2010-Elk Meat & Cookies

It was 0C (32F) and snowing lightly as I took off for my morning walk. I tried a partly new area this morning and enjoyed being out after staying inside all day yesterday.

I went out to pick up some groceries this morning. I've found a store that sells a lot of gluten free stuff called Natural Food Pantry and the other day when I was there I bought some gluten free hamburg buns to have with our elk meat burgers for dinner tonight.

I also picked up a cookie mix and made up some cookies with white chocolate chips and pecans. They're pretty good.

Cookie mix

The first batch of cookies just out of the oven

I forgot to pick up yeast when I was out. I had purchased a Judy's Magic Bread Mix a while ago and I got Nancy's bread maker out of the storage area so I'll have to go out tomorrow and get that.

Our elk meat was excellent. Gordon grilled it as I thought that would be more tasty than frying it. It's quite expensive so it's not something we'll have regularly but it was nice for a treat.

Gordon outside grilling in just a sweater at the end of January!

I found this video on a site that a visit regularly and thought I'd include it here as well. There are lots of places on the video that we have seen and most recently the covered bridge at Wakefield. It's quite lengthy so if you have bandwidth limits it might be a good idea to pass on watching it.

Monday January 25, 2010-Another Boring Day

It was 4C (39F) this morning but pouring rain, therefore no walk. It rained until early afternoon, then we actually had a bit of sunshine. We reached a high of 7C (45F), a really nice temperature for here at this time of year.

Other than colouring the roots of my hair today, all I did was read and watch TV.

Gordon updated his blog today. It's a lot more interesting than mine. To read it, click here.

Sunday January 24, 2010-Quiet Day

It was -14C (7F) and sunny this morning. I decided to take Max on my walk since his dog walker doesn't come on Sunday.

I talked to both sisters on the phone. Betty (Toronto) is getting ready to go to Florida for two months and Margie (Ottawa) went back to work last week.

This afternoon I read and fell asleep.

A terribly exciting life I lead!

Saturday January 23, 2010-Morning walk

It was a bright beautiful sunny morning so I had a nice walk along the Trans Canada Trail. I started out going west toward Stittsville (western Ottawa suburb) but not as many people walk on that part of the trail in the winter so it wasn't nice walking. I turned around and headed east which is the way I usually go and it was much better as the snow is packed down.

Going west on the Trans Canada Trail

And then east

Nancy left today on a week's vacation on the Mayan Riviera so we're house and dog sitting this week.

Poor Max is lost without her. He keeps looking at the door that goes to the garage waiting for her to come home.

This afternoon I decided I'd better go out and pick up some groceries, freezing rain forecast for tomorrow so we'll stay housebound. No point going out in that unless you have to.

Friday January 22, 2009-Snowy Owls

I was up at 6:10 a.m. today. Nancy and another lady ride to work together but Nancy had an appointment this morning so we took her to her appointment and then dropped her at work.

Then we went in search of the snowy owl. As you can see, we found one! Actually we saw another one but he was far away on the roof of a barn. I saw him through my binoculars. Even Gordon's camera couldn't get a good close up of the one on the barn roof. They are indeed a majestic creature. This one came flying toward us as we drove down the country road and landed on top of a pole right beside the road. He let us walk pretty close to him before flying away.

The frost was very heavy on the trees and poles this morning which made for some beautiful scenery.

There was even some frost on this old barn.

You can see how thick it was from this close up.

Frosty trees along a frozen river.

We got home around 2 p.m. and I went for a long nap! Not used to getting up at those early hours anymore since we're not traveling!

We had fun!

Thursday January 21, 2010-Eye Doctor-NOT!

It was -6C (21F) this morning, -12C (10F) with the windchill but it was a nice morning for a walk through the residential areas around here. It was still cloudy but the sun came out early in the afternoon. It was a welcome sight!

I was reading Travels with Miranda this morning. She has a Glendale Class C. Our Titanium is also made by Glendale. She said that she read that Glendale has filed for bankruptcy. That's a real bummer since they make an excellent product. We have been very happy with our Titanium.

My appointment with the eye specialist was scheduled for late this afternoon. So away we went only to find out when we arrived that the doctor had been called away on a family emergency. They tried to call us but our cell phones are 361 area code and the area code for Ottawa is 613 so people always get it wrong. Maybe we should change to another area code. I guess we'll wait till we see if I'll be able to go back to the U.S. before going to the trouble.

I asked the receptionist when they were booking cataract surgery - JULY! Lucky I'm getting started this winter!

As much as I enjoyed seeing the sun today, it sure was brutal driving home after my appointment this afternoon. You could hardly see the traffic lights. I'm glad to see it anyway!

Wednesday, 20 January 2010

Wednesday January 20 2010-Colder

Today was colder -5C (23F) and consequently we actually saw some sun this afternoon.

I did get out for my walk this morning finally. I've been really lazy about it the last couple of days. The housecleaner came this morning. She started Wednesdays today instead of Monday and she comes later which works out better for my morning routine.

Other than that it was same old stuff - reading and watching TV.

Tuesday, 19 January 2010

Tuesday January 19, 2010-Dentist

We had another fairly warm day with a high of 3C (37F) but it was still cloudy. The forecast says maybe some sun tomorrow!

I had an appointment today to have my teeth cleaned so I headed out early as I needed to pick up corn tortillas for Gordon. That's what he uses instead of bread. I had a nice chat with the lady in the health food store where I buy the tortillas. She's very knowledgeable about food sensitivities, celiac disease etc so it's always interesting to talk to her.

From there I headed to the dentist's office. I was still early so stopped in one of the discount stores that is in that mall. Then I got my teeth cleaned and the dentist checked them - no cavities and I still had insurance so Nortel hasn't cancelled our extended health care yet!

From there I went to the Carlingwood Mall. I usually wear sweats around the house but they're wearing out. I had planned to buy some new ones when in the US this winter but since that didn't happen I was looking here. The things with women's sweats here is they usually don't have pockets, I hate stuff with no pockets! It's also not that easy to find petite lengths so I went to Sears. The sweats didn't come in petite sizes (I don't like to hem as I can never get them even) so instead I found some jeans on sale and bought two pairs for about $15. They're lightweight so I'm happy with them. After a stop at the bank I made my way home before rush hour and before it got dark.

That's it for today!

Monday, 18 January 2010

Monday January 18, 2010-Another Dull Cloudy Day

It's been so long since I've seen sun here, I can't remember what it looks like. I see it in the forecast but they keep moving it ahead. Right now it looks like we might see some on Thursday.

I went out this morning to pick up a few things and wound up going to several stores just to put in the time and to get out for a while. It seems when you're living in a house you don't tend to get outside as often as you do when you're living in an RV.

So that was my day. I made meat loaf for dinner and Nancy made mashed potatoes for her and Gordon. Since I no longer eat potatoes I had brown rice and we had some brussel sprouts for veggie.

Sunday January 17, 2010-Another Trip to Quebec

I was feeling much better this morning. I have no idea why I didn't clue into taking an extra Nexium before. Not like it's the first time this has happened.

So, we decided to take another trip over to Quebec near where we went last time as there is another covered bridge in the same area.

Entering Quebec

First we drove through the little town of Old Chelsea and stopped to take a photo of the skiier at Camp Fortune.

The ski lift

Then we drove along Meach Lake.

Then it was off to find the covered bridge. This one is still in use but is much smaller than the one near Wakefield.

On our way back to Ottawa we stopped downtown to see Rideau Falls and saw a lot of trees covered in red berries.

This is the bridge to Quebec that we drove over twice today.

Here is the partially frozen Rideau Falls. Rideau Falls is quite close to our Prime Minister's residence here in Ottawa.

From there we stopped at a couple of grocery stores to pick up some fruit and then home for a very late lunch.
