From Poche's Fish N Camp to Frog Hollow Campground/RV Park

I was awake at 6 a.m. but didn't get up till 6:30. Gordon was still asleep which is amazing for him! I missed my walk this morning using that time to make our lunches for the road. We were packed up and out of Poche's Fish N Camp at 9:10 a.m. It was 57F (14C) and partly sunny.

As we left Poche's I took another photo of our 'gator'. I was right, it's a log!

We had an uneventful journey and made it to our first stop of our northern trek shortly after 3 p.m., a distance of 340 miles. We are at Frog Hollow Campground/RV Park at Grenada, MS and will stay for two days. There's some weather coming in tomorrow so we'll wait it out here. The campground has free wifi and it appears to be pretty good. We had planned to use the aerial for TV but the only station we got was a snowy NBC so Gordon set up the TV satellite.

I took photos of Henderson Swamp as we were traveling on I-10. There's no real way to get to it by road other than the interstate.

We made it to Mississippi!

The trip today was quite beautiful, from the marshes of Louisiana to the varying greens of the trees in Mississippi. The dogwood is also in bloom.

In reply to Diane's comment on yesterday's blog - the wood ducks were further along the road from the rookery but quite close. Lots of luck, hope you enjoy being there! The area is indeed a little gem. If you're taking your RV, Catfish Heaven campground is closest but we like Poche's Fish N Camp.

And to Donna who also commented, sorry haven't had a chance to check out the wildflower info that you gave me.

Now in Canton, MS

We left Natchez Trace RV Park in Tupelo, MS this morning at 9:55 a.m. We had a couple of incidents of road paving but we weren't stopped long. We did stop a few times at pullouts on our way to take some photos but the most interesting spot we stopped at was Cyprus Swamp which is close to Canton, MS. We walked a ways on the trail there but we’ll go back probably tomorrow.

We did see some wildlife today but no photos, they're just too quick. We saw three white-tailed deer romping in the meadow and another one trying to cross the trace. Luckily the guy ahead was watching and slowed to let the deer cross. We also saw some wild turkeys and a little black daschund. Sure hope his owner found him before he got run over!

Right now we’re ensconced at the Movietown RV Park at Canton, MS and we’ve signed up for two days. There is no ‘it’ factor to this campground but the sites are reasonably level and wide. You have to be careful choosing a spot due to all the fire ants around. The lady in the office told me that they don’t try to get into your RV. Sure hope she’s right. I did put some comet around the tires just in case. The first and last time I was bitten by fire ants was in Vicksburg. I don't want to repeat the experience.

Canton, MS is apparently a site where a few movies have been made, thus the name of the RV park, among them, John Grisham's "A Time to Kill".

There are a few sights to see here other than the Cyprus Swamp so we’ll be looking those up as well. Instead of going to find a Walmart which is about 11 miles away we’ll stop at the Piggly Wiggly in town to pick up some fruit.

Gordon really needs to get some rest. He coughed most of the night last night. We think it’s probably due to the cold weather so it’s warmer here, hope it goes away!
