Trip to Ottawa

It was -32C (-26F) when I got up this morning but it was a nice sunny day. We had to go in to Ottawa today for a medical appointment so we ran errands and took some photos.

This lady was cross country skiing on the Ottawa River - very cold!

The steam is where the frozen Ottawa River meets the Deschenes Rapids which aren't frozen.

Today's Morning Walk

After an all day snowfall yesterday I decided to take my camera along on my morning walk. It was a nice light snowfall. There was no wind so the snow came straight down and there are no snow drifts. The town did a good job of clearing all the streets and sidewalks overnight.

Solar Pillar

Solar pillars are created when plate shaped ice crystals relflect light, creating a columnar visual effect. Solar pillars are an extremely cold weather phenomenon most commonly seen in the arctic. Gordon said he's seen at least five here this winter.

We almost didn't go out for sunset tonight. Thankfully we did as I've never gotten a photo of a solar pillar. To see Gordon's photo, click here.
