Laundry, Groceries, Reading

Today was another beautiful bright sunny day with no humidity. We reached a high of 26C (78F). I had a nice walk this time going south on Appleton Side Road and then down the side road that runs along the campground to the river. There’s lots of shade there and it was quite warm by the time I walked around 9:00 a.m.

After breakfast and doing my morning reading of blogs, I got the laundry ready and went into Carleton Place to the Laundromat. There was no one there when I arrived which I thought was great for a Sunday. I was thinking I’d have to wait for a machine. After that I stopped at the two grocery stores in town to get what I needed and was back home shortly after 2:00 p.m.

The rest of the day was spent reading, outside at first till the mosquitoes started to pester me and then inside.

Here are more photos of the flowers around the campground:

A Walk Along the Mississippi

Today was a beautiful day, no humidity, just a lot of bright sun and 23C (74F).

I got a fair bit accomplished this morning. I coloured my hair – light ash blonde this time instead of golden and got the place vacuumed. I consider that a ‘fair bit’.

After lunch we decided to go into Carleton Place and see what we could see. From a Vacations magazine for the area I saw that there was a walking trail along the Mississippi but no directions of how to get to it so my husband found it all on his own. It’s a very nice trail, paved part way and then gravel but wide and level. It also has a boardwalk which reminded us of Six Mile Cypress in Fort Myers except without all the birds although we did see ducks and two large white geese. It was a lovely day for a walk. We then drove to the end of Lake Park Road. There’s a campground there called Hayshores. Sounds like he’s just enlarging it but they had a couple of transient spots right on the water. Too expensive though and not as pretty as Tranquil Acres!

Along the Mississippi

When we came home I sat outside for a while and walked around the campground to see what there was to see. That’s about it for today!

Nice Day Except for the Rain

At 8:30 this morning it was 21C (70F) with hazy sun so pretty warm for a walk. I did walk but no running today. It was quite windy all day so I sat outside under the awning for about four hours and read. I’ve read two books in the last two days.

The day was pretty uneventful but we were in line for a severe thunderstorm this evening. The rain started shortly after 7:00 p.m. but the severe thunderstorm, tornado and hail warning didn’t materialize. We did have some heavy rain but there were other days this week when it was heavier. The weather passed over quickly dropping the temperature about 10 degrees and taking away the humidity. I really enjoyed my outdoor time today.

Our high today was 30C (86F).

Rain, Sun, Lawn Mowing

This morning was cloudy with a couple of sunny breaks and 12C (54F) as I was walking. Jean wasn’t home this morning so I went on my own. By 11:00 a.m. it was raining again which foiled my plans to mow the yard around the RV so I resorted to reading.

This afternoon the sun came out and dried the grass and by that time Dave had mowed around the RV on his tractor so I borrowed the hand mower and got closer to the RV and under the steps so it looks tidier. He sure does a good job with the tractor though.

The temperature reached 18C (64F) this afternoon when the sun came out and it was quite pleasant. The good thing about the cold weather the last couple of days is that the mosquitoes go somewhere when it’s cold. They were back this evening though.

A Day of Errands in Ottawa

It was 7C (44F) this morning but partly sunny. I went by myself this morning as I went earlier since I had to get ready to go into Ottawa as I had a chiropractor appointment early this afternoon and I wanted to make the most of my trip in so I had a long list of things to get done.

First thing I wanted to do was price lenses for my glasses. I got four quotes. There are so many different things to get from thickness of lenses to less distortion and all kinds of coatings. I still want to get one from Lenscrafters. Since I only get (up to) $200 back from my insurance, I want to get the best price that I can. The highest price I got was $946.50, that’s with the thinnest lenses, designer frames and the lenses with the least distortion with all the coatings. The best price was about $550 but I’m not sure what the thickness of the lens is as Sears just give you the best they have.

The lens shopping took up most of the time. I also stopped at Rainbow Foods to pick up some gluten free stuff and got some groceries. I got to my sister’s house just after she got home from work. Her husband filled up my six water jugs so now I have good Ottawa water for drinking. Danica was there playing her trumpet and I gave her the soccer ball that we had gotten at the Dodge dealer in Kingston. I had forgotten about it. Nick also dropped by as he was off today. He was meeting his wife at her job for 5:00 p.m.so I dropped him off there and headed west to Carleton Place. From the time I left Margie’s to the time I arrived at Tranquil Acres it took me an hour in rush hour traffic but that included dropping Nick off.

Although I had a chiropractor’s appointment today by the time I got home my back was not happy with me!

I took a couple of photos at Margie’s but they aren’t that great so I’ll just say – No photos today!

More Rain

Another cloudy morning and18C (64F) but no rain so Jean and I went for a long walk. It took about an hour. That was the highlight of my day and also the highest temperature we saw today. The forecast is for 4C (39F) overnight tonight but it should be warmed up again in a couple of days. Hopefully this cold snap will get rid of the mosquitoes.

About all I did today was make potato salad. I had cooked a lot of potatoes last night as we hadn’t had potato salad for a while. It’s more the weather for stew than potato salad but oh well, we’ll eat it anyway. That’s all that’s on the menu!

Other than that more reading, napping, internet surfing and watching TV!

Since I didn’t take any photos again today, I’ll leave you with photos of a warmer place with lots better weather – our time in Florida in March.

Still Raining!

It was 17C (63F) this morning and raining. I decided I was going for my walk anyway so dressed appropriately and went next door as Jean said she would probably go with me today. We walked for about 45 minutes in the rain. It was actually a nice walk. We saw lots of ducks, geese and a couple of white-tailed deer. Unfortunately I hadn’t taken my camera.

My usual morning routine took me till lunch time, then I settled on the couch with my book and did the usual, read and napped. I think I napped more than read today but it was that kind of day. Our high only reached 18C (65F).

We're in Carleton Place till August 6th

It was a nicer morning today than it’s been lately. The temperature was 14C (57F), partly sunny and not as humid as it’s been. Most of the later morning and afternoon was fairly sunny until around 6:00 p.m. when it looked like we might have a thunderstorm but it didn’t happen nor did it rain at least until the time of this posting. I walked south on the Appleton Side Road today as far as the old train tracks and then walked a ways on the pathway *that used to be the train tracks).

Late this morning I returned my older sister’s phone call. They were at the cottage near Lindsay where it was very nice and they had been in the lake already.

This morning I went to the office and signed us up to stay here until April 6th at which time we will go to Victoria Campground in Cobourg for a week, that too is confirmed and then to Double M Campground (hopefully, not confirmed yet) in Lindsay until September 20th when we will start heading west for our winter trek.

Late this afternoon, my younger sister called and when I go into Ottawa on Wednesday for my chiropractor’s appointment, I’ll drop by their place after she gets home from work. My nephew and godson, Nick and my niece, Danica will hopefully be there so I’ll get to see them as well. We don’t know yet if Nick’s wife, Becky will be there or not, Margie wasn’t sure if she was off work or not.

I chatted a bit with our neighbors, John and Jean this afternoon. They have been busy over this past week and just got back from Toronto. They stopped at Cobourg as I had told them about the nice little campground there and they plan to stop for a few days when they leave here in a couple of weeks.

We watched a couple of movies tonight, one of them a Miss Marple which was quite good. Other than that, we spent a quiet evening.

Hot Dog Fest

It was very warm and humid this morning. I walked quite a ways further along Appleton Side Road and then down River Road towards Appleton but the air was very heavy and it was still a little foggy. We’ve had quite a bit of rain and thunderstorms off and on this week but mainly after 10:00 p.m. I always liked it in the Caribbean when it rained at night and you woke up to a bright sunny day but that hasn’t been happening here for most of this week.

After breakfast we dumped our tanks. Although we dump into a tank which has to be pumped out, this site has a drain that goes into the ground for the gray water only so we don’t have to dump as often which is very nice.

There is a hot dog fest tonight at the campground sponsored by the owners so I checked with Shonagh this morning to see if the hot dogs were wheat free, they weren’t, so off I went to pick some up as well as some other items.

When I got back we had a big rain storm again. This has been going on most of the week. Enough already! It was 26C (79F) when I got back to the RV and very humid. Glad I wore my sundress.

We went to the rec hall for 6:00 p.m. for the hot dog fest and sat with two couples that you will see in the photos below. Both couples are planning on becoming fulltimers within the next year or so. We enjoyed our hot dogs and desserts and chatting with the people. There are quite a few new seasonal people here this year and Dave (the owner) made a welcome speech and even included us!

The First Day of June

More photos of flowers and leaves from the campground garden

It was 16C (61F), cloudy and humid again for my walk north on Appleton Side Road. I walked a little further today and it still only took 25 minutes. That includes one short running spurt. I guess if I had just walked it would have been 30 minutes or close.

Last night I made a dish that made a bit of a mess in my oven so I got around to cleaning it this morning. I hate to admit it but this is the first time it’s been cleaned in nearly three years. Actually, it’s not used all that much. The top of the stove, the microwave and the BBQ get used a lot more. Anyway, it’s now as clean as I could get it. Next time, I’ll spray it and let it set overnight.

I got good news from my doctor this afternoon, my mammogram was normal. That’s always a relief since my sister had breast cancer over 10 years ago. I’m now in the 1 in 4 instead of 1 in 9 ratio.

I joined Facebook a couple of weeks ago. I had heard so much about it, I decided to see what it was all about. I’m not sure I’ll use it all that often but it’s kind of interesting. I started a graduating class of 1966 from Morrisburg High School but haven’t gotten any responses. I don’t think I have anyone’s email address from school. I tried to get my high school added to their list but they will only add a school that exists today and MHS has been closed since 1966. There are a couple of RVers whose blogs I read that are on Facebook as well as my niece and a couple of people that I worked with at Nortel/Breconridge. They obtain your “friends” from your address book. Interesting!

Anyway, it’s been a quiet day except for all that ugly housework!

Laundry and May Expenses

This morning was cloudy, damp and humid and (61F), not a particularly nice morning for a walk but at least it wasn’t raining. I noticed that the irises are starting to come out in the campground garden as you can see from the photo below.

I decided today I needed to get off the couch and the laundry had to be done so off I went to the Laundromat in Carleton Place. That took about 1 ½ hours. I stopped and picked up a few groceries then came home.

It was really humid today with a lot of mosquitoes around – not one of Ottawa’s nice summer days!

Late in the afternoon I went out to get some pictures so I’d have something to post on my blog, so here you are:

This is the owner of the campground going about his duties

The lone iris

This little guy was trying to hide from me

Beautiful, lacy lilacs

Our RV site with all the trees in bloom. Pretty spot, isn't it?

May Expenses

  • Campgrounds - $716.60
  • Groceries/Wine/Spirits - $517.77
  • Laundry - $37.50
  • Entertainment/Parking/Restaurants - $286.77
  • Truck Fuel -$215.90
  • Propane - $25.64
  • RV/Truck - $1231.41
  • Fixed Expenses - $406.17
  • Medical/Dental - $347.75
  • Gifts & Misc – $734.31
  • Total - $4519.82

Quite a month! You’d think we still had a house and were paying property and school taxes.

However, we did have to replace the truck tires and get a wheel alignment. That was just over $1200.00. We also bought a new UPS battery backup for the computer equipment as our other one calfed.

We also had our weekend in Toronto/Kitchener/Cobourg which was over $300.00 including hotel, food, car rental and the Butterfly Conservatory.

There was also the excess over and above our extended health care for renewing prescriptions, chiropractor, eye doctor and a couple of lab tests.

We renewed our Good Sam membership, Passport America membership, our RV Explorer membership and our ERS as well as Gordon’s domain for gordonwolford.com. (over $360.00).

When you add up all the above items it comes to $2207.75+. If you subtract that from the total you get $2312.07 which isn’t bad for a month in Ontario!

More Appointments

I was up early this morning, shortly after 7:00 a.m. as I decided I needed to go for my walk more than I needed to stay in bed. We had appointments in Ottawa for this morning and afternoon.

It was sunny and 12C (54F) according to our wireless thermometer. I think that it was getting too much heat on it but it was very pleasant and sunny.

We left late this morning for Ottawa as our chiropractor’s appointments were for 11:30 a.m. We got quite a bit accomplished – Gordon’s rain jacket had a tear in it so I took it to the tailor I always used at Lincoln Fields and she fixed it while I waited (in about 5 minutes) for $4.00. We finally went to Home Depot and got boards cut for under the landing legs and rear stabilizers for the RV. We’ve been procrastinating about this for two years and just using broken pieces of wood that my brother-in-law had given us when we first started out. I also had my eye appointment as my eyes have been blurry but Dr. Engel said everything was healthy and there’s hardly any change in my prescription. He does suggest I get new lenses however as I need more room in them for reading. When I got them I was still working so they were geared mainly for computer work. I didn’t feel like stopping to look at glasses so we just picked up groceries and came home. We’ll have to go back into Ottawa later and do the glasses thing.

Just finished a book called ‘The Poet’ by Michael Connolly. It’s a good read if anyone’s interested. There are a couple of things that aren’t believable but it’s still a good story.

More of the Same

After our rainy day yesterday, it was bright and sunny but rather cool this morning, about 11C (52F). I had an uneventful walk but did see some pretty purple wild phlox in one of the vacant lots along the Mississippi.

Our bright sunshine quickly changed to cloud this morning and other than some walks outside to take some photos (mainly of flowers and the bumble bee below and the huge rhubarb plant) and take the garbage out, I pretty much read and played games on the computer for most of the day.

Around 4:00 p.m. I got a second wind and decided if I didn’t get off the couch, I was going to grow roots so went out for another walk. There is a loop you can walk down a side road and a road goes through a farmer’s field and then cuts back to the Appleton Side Road. It took me about 40 minutes but I did stop to take some photos along the way, mainly of the very co-operative four-legged ladies photographed below.

A Couple of Hours Around Carleton Place

Pretty trees in downtown Carleton Place

No one was home when I knocked on the door of the RV next to us this morning so I went for a walk by myself. It was much cooler this morning and partly sunny but the weather soon warmed up and the sun came out. I read for a while and finished the book I was reading.

Around noon we both went into Carleton Place and I walked around the main street shops while Gordon took photos around town. It’s a shame to see so many downtown shops unoccupied in such a pretty downtown area.

The rest of the day was spent watching TV, napping and reading. Our high today was about 23C (73F).

Another Purchase

Last night was the second night that we got to sleep with the windows open and our Fantastik Fan on.

This morning was warm and partly sunny with a nice breeze for our walk. I say ‘our’ because Jean from next door accompanied me. The walk went very quickly as we were chatting the whole way.

This morning our UPS Backup system appeared to have crapped out on us so since we have three computers relying on it, we drove into Ottawa to get another one. The prices on these units have come down substantially since we bought ours when Gordon had his office in the house. I also looked in to replacing the battery in my laptop. It seems to last a little over a year and then its toast so in order to use it I have to keep it plugged in all the time. The guy at Cyber Computer in Bells Corners is calling me back with a price tomorrow. The last one I replaced was on warranty, this one isn’t.

We didn’t stay long in Ottawa as the skies were looking very dark rather like a thunderstorm was imminent. The weather forecaster on TV last night said that there was a 40% chance of rain this afternoon due to a cold front coming in. Since the thermometer in the truck registered 32C (90F), a cold front to lower the temperature a bit would be nice. Seems like just a few days ago I was complaining that it was too cold! We did have some thunder but nothing else materialized although it did cool down and the wind picked up a bit. Gordon had put the awning up when we got back from Ottawa.

The lilacs are really coming into bloom here!

A Hot Day!

A tulip in hiding

Views from my lawnchair

It was very warm and sunny this morning 22C (71F) just before 9:00 a.m. I took a different route this morning walking east on the side road all the way to the end. It took well over half an hour and my back was feeling it by the time I returned.

The grass was getting very long near our rig and around the satellite dish so I borrowed the campground lawnmower and mowed under our steps and as far under the slides as I could get as well as some of the area beside the rig. Dave can get fairly close with the tractor mower but not under the slides. Just when I finished, he came around on the tractor mower and mowed the rest of the yard as well as the rest of the campground so now we have a nice yard area, so nice in fact that I sat outside for over two hours under the shade of the big tree. There weren’t many mosquitoes around. I guess it was too hot. When I was out mowing this morning, I met the husband of our neighbour that I met last week, John. Jean (whom I had met last week) was also out and said she had seen me out walking in the mornings and wondered if I would like company. So, tomorrow, she’s going with me on my walk.

I’ve also made arrangements to go into my former office for lunch on June 13th to see the folks there.

Gordon got some things done around the RV that needed doing – the valance on the kitchen window has been lose, we had a bulb out in the light above the sink and the handles on my pots and pans needed to be tightened – just niggly small stuff.

Our beautiful day turned into a heavy rain storm around 4:00 p.m. that lasted for about 10 minutes and brought the temperature down from 29C (85F) to 25C (78F) then the sun came out again and it kept raining. Anyway the sun came back, the rain went away and the temperature went up again to 28C (82F). More strange weather!

Back to Ottawa Again

This morning was sunny and warm, 16C (61F) but there were lots of mosquitoes especially on the river side of Appleton Side Road.

We had a chiropractor’s appointment for this afternoon so we got ready this morning, had an early lunch and went in to Ottawa a bit early as we had to stop for fuel. It cost us $112.52 to fill up today! That’s the most it’s ever cost at 93.5 cents/litre. We have paid 99.9 and 1.07.9 cents/litre but I guess our tank wasn’t as empty. We were early for our chiropractor’s appointment but we usually are. After that we stopped at Walmart to get a few items, Loblaws for water and some cereal that I like and Food Basics for other stuff. Since Hwy 7 is under construction in some parts especially from Stittsville to Ottawa we are taking a different route – Flewellyn Road. We can pick it up at Ashton Side Road which is the next road east of us or we can continue south from Appleton Side Road onto Cemetery Side Road, pick up 9th Line Road into the little town of Ashton and get Flewellyn from there. It’s a much prettier route especially with the lilacs coming into bloom. They smelled really pretty.

We reached around 27C (80F) today and it was beautiful and sunny with a light breeze. Just a perfect day (except for the mosquitoes)!

Laundry and Relaxing

A lone pink tulip in the garden

Snowballs are coming into bloom

A robin has built a nest on the underside lip of our main slide

The weather is improving! This morning was sunny and 14C (58F). I did my usual walk north on Appleton Side Road to the Appleton turnoff and back. It’s only taking me about 20 minutes to do this now but the black flies were out this morning and kept getting between my eyes and my glasses. Nasty little things!

Just before noon I picked up all the dirty stuff and headed into Carleton Place to do the laundry. I find there are less people at the Laundromat at that time of day.

When I got back, after putting clothes away, I lay down on the couch and read for a while. Unfortunately although the weather is beautiful today, I’d get eaten alive if I tried to sit outside and read. That’s the joys of being in the country in the spring around here! We did reach a high of 21C (69F).

That’s it for today!

Road Trip

View of Mississippi River along Appleton Side Road on my morning walk

Cute little bridge over Paul's Creek west of Lanark

This morning was 12C (54F), sunny and windy. I walked north on Appleton Side Road as far as the turnoff to Appleton again. I did a bit of a jog a couple of times as I’ve heard that bursts of energy are good. It was quite windy walking north. Since I got back early because of the jog, I walked around the park. There weren’t any bugs out due to the wind.

After lunch we headed west and then north and drove around the Lanark area, stopping at Mal’s Camping to see what their campground was like. Still like Tranquil Acres best. After taking a few photos around the Lanark area, we headed south into Perth and had a look around there for a while then home on Hwy 7.

We reached a high of 18C (65F) on our drive and it remained sunny all day although the wind calmed down quite a bit during the day.

Very Strange Weather!

This is a photo Gordon took this morning of a lilac tree in the campground
just coming into bloom

It was cloudy, breezy and 12C (54F) this morning. I walked along the side road and back and met Shonagh (campground owner) on my way back and we stood and chatted for a while till Gordon phoned me thinking that I was being held prisoner by a skunk (as happened last year) when I was out walking with Bib. We just had to wait around until the skunk wandered off into the field. I had a nice chat with Shonagh and told her we’d probably be staying an extra month. Unfortunately the painting classes don’t start here until July so I guess I’ll miss them again this year.

The afternoon turned really windy and cold with rain here and there. There are a few tenters here are the park. Not nice for us but especially not nice for them!

I went out and did some grocery shopping and looked around the little mall in Carleton Place for a while this afternoon. The stores are closed tomorrow for Victoria Day.

The temperature (according to our wireless thermometer) dipped nearly 20 degrees this afternoon in the space of about an hour. I looked at it once, it was 19C (67F), next time I looked at it, it was 9C (48F). Go figure!

Working, Napping.....

Today was another bright sunny day. I didn’t go to bed till midnight last night so slept till nearly 9:00 a.m. As expected, the campground filled up last night and this morning there are a lot of little munchkins running around. At 16C (61F) it was beautiful for walking so I took advantage of it and walked as far as the turnoff into the little hamlet of Appleton. I think I measured the distance in the truck last year but don’t remember how far it is. There and back only took ½ hour.

Gordon went out and washed the truck. It was very badly needed. When he got back he wiped it down and did the windows. I used the little paint tube I got over a year ago and touched up the paint chips. While he was cleaning the truck, I washed the windows in the RV. Enough work for one day!

Had a nap this afternoon. The temperature got to the mid 23C (74F). There was a lot of activity around the park, kids and parents yelling. It was so nice when we were the only ones here! Not very profitable for Dave and Shonagh (the park owners) though!

Back to Ottawa and Visitors

Campground flowers

We saw this little guy on our walk at Stony Swamp today

This morning was sunny but only 8C (47F). Again I had to get ready to go into Ottawa this time for the dreaded mammogram appointment. Gordon drove today as the parking lot for the mammogram place is usually full and the spaces are tight for a one ton truck. This way if he can’t find a space, he’ll go elsewhere and I’ll call him when I’m ready. The advantages of having two phones.

My sister called last night. She and John are going to come out for a visit tonight. She’s taken a few days off work due to all the overtime she’s put in so with the long weekend counted in she will have had a week away from work. She said she was really tired so hopefully this will rejuvenate her. Working’s a bitch although I must say that I miss it sometimes. I don’t have Peter (my former boss) to nag anymore!

We made it into Ottawa in time to get my receipts photocopied and sent to my extended health care, get more water and go to the bank before my mammogram appointment. After the appointment, we had lunch at Denny’s next door and then tried to walk on some of the many trails around Ottawa, this one being Stony Swamp but it’s just too muddy yet. So we came back to Carleton Place via the scenic route – Fallowfield and Flewellyn Roads and avoided the construction.

I tried to sit outside when we got back but there are too many mosquitoes although it was bright and sunny and 16C (61F).

Margie and John and their wire-haired terrier, Jasper came for a visit tonight. Quite a few new people arrived. The sites are filling up!

Errands and an Appointment in Ottawa

This morning was mainly sunny and 12C (54F) when I got up. This afternoon was mostly cloudy and about 11C (52F). I haven’t been walking the last couple of days due to going in to Ottawa for appointments. That’s why I usually like to stay at a campground in Ottawa until the appointments are over but it’s very nice being here at Tranquil Acres.

I had lots to do today. I had to go into Ottawa as I had an appointment with my periodontist. So I left home around 8:30 a.m. and got quite a few errands run before my appointment. Years ago I had a Nathan Pritikin cookbook with a really good recipe with chicken, veggies and pineapple so I stopped at a used book store and found the book however the recipe didn’t call for chicken. I guess we just altered the recipe by putting chicken in it. Anyway, I bought the book as I want to make the recipe again. I went to three stores before I could find my flax cereal which I found at Loblaws at Baseline and Woodroffe. I also found a water dispenser there and my bottles fit okay. It was only 60 cents per gallon which is fairly cheap for this area. I picked up our prescriptions and parted with nearly $800.00 of which I should get back 80% from Sun Life. I also picked up some groceries at Food Basics in Kanata after which I headed back to Carleton Place arriving at some time around 2:30 p.m. Gordon then went out and got propane. With these cold nights we’re using quite a bit.

The one thing I didn’t get done was take my medical receipts to Staples to get photocopied so I could send my first claim of the year to my extended health care. We have to go back to Ottawa tomorrow so will hopefully get that done then.

Medical Appointments, Rainy and Cold!

Photos of Keeley Falls, at Andrew Haydon Park

It poured rain all night and was still raining this morning when I got up. I was up at 7:00 a.m. as we had our medicals today and had to get ready and go into Ottawa for 10:00 a.m. There is construction on Hwy7 where they are making it into 4 lanes from Ottawa to Carleton Place and you never know how long you’ll be tied up so we wanted to get on our way with lots of time to spare. We’re two Virgos you know!

Both our medicals turned out well. We had fasted so after we had our medicals went for our bloodwork, then had a late breakfast at Zellers Diner at Bayshore and dropped off our prescriptions while we were at Bayshore. After lunch we had chiropractor appointments, then stopped at Andrew Haydon Park and took a few photos and headed home.

It was rainy and cold all day today and the high was 8C (47F). Not a very nice spring day!

Not A Very Nice Day

It started raining around 10:00 p.m. last night and had been raining on and off all night and this morning so no walk. It was 13C (55F) when I got up around 8:30 a.m.

So, after my morning rituals, I lay down on the couch to read, fell asleep, woke up, read some more, lunch etc. About 2:30 p.m. I got myself off the couch and since it had stopped raining, I went for my walk. It was cloudy, humid and our high was 18C (66F) but at least it didn’t rain on me. While I was out I saw a pretty little blue bird but I didn’t have my camera and it wasn’t close enough for me to take a photo of anyway. Hopefully we’ll have more birds around than blackbirds and robins. I have seen a couple of goldfinches around the park.

Rain started again on and off late this afternoon and is supposed to continue for the next couple of days with tomorrow being cold and windy. Not nice!

Lazy Monday

This morning I didn’t start out on my walk until 8:40 a.m. and it was 16C (60F) and sunny with a breeze. It continued to be sunny during the day but the breeze picked up this afternoon. We reached a high of 21C (70F).

Didn’t do much today – read, did puzzles and vegged out. We met our neighbor that arrived yesterday, Jean. She and her husband, John are just starting a year long trip in their new Open Roads fifth wheel. They will be here for six weeks as John is finishing up a contract so I expect we’ll see more of them.

Today while my computer was on but I was elsewhere, Firefox decided to update itself so that when I came back I had to turn on my computer again. It was then I found out that my bookmarks were lost AGAIN. I think this happened a while back. I thought I had made a copy of my bookmark folder but it wasn’t up to date so I had to start recreating from my History file again. Lots of work but then I’m retired. I’ve got time to do this kind of thing.

I had a request in my comments yesterday for the Butterscotch Pie recipe. Unfortunately it’s not my recipe to give out so at this time I can’t part with it.

Happy Mother's Day!

Taken at the end of the street that runs along the campground - the Mississippi River

It got down to freezing here last night! When I got up it was 9C (48F) again but very bright and sunny and continued to be bright and sunny all day warming up to about 16C (60F).

I watched a movie around lunch time and then went out to get fixings to make stew as it’s still kind of stew weather (cool at night). Michelle called just as I was getting back from the grocery store so I had a chat with her for a while. She’s going to email me her butterscotch pie recipe. She gave me a gluten free pie shell when we were down there so I need the ‘real butterscotch pie’ recipe (the recipe was Gordon’s mother’s recipe) to make it right.

I got my stew made. We try not to eat it on the day its made letting it steep in its juices for at least a day so dinner for tomorrow is ready!

Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers out there!
