Erie, PA to Rochester, NY

Erie, PA morning-46F (8C)-sunny
Rochester, NY afternoon-66F (19C)-partly sunny

I still wasn't feeling the best this morning but we want to get home so we filled up with diesel at 2.39.9 (the most expensive we've seen in ages until we hit NY) left Erie, PA at around 10 a.m. , 61F (16C) with sunny skies and had an uneventful 181 mile trip to the KOA at Canandaigua, NY arriving here before 1:00 p.m. We paid $40 US for our site.

On our drive

Lots of vineyards

Here we are at the KOA

And on our 'super site'

As you know I don't think KOA's are worth the prices they charge however it happens that that's about all that's open up here this time of year. Our site is a 'super site' but they neglected to tell us what that meant just that it cost more. Basically they've redone the campground so for big rigs you actually have two sites, one for the RV and one for your truck or toad. Since we were given some wrong information at the office, we parked on the wrong site. The truck should be here. Oh well, just pray that we can maneuver ourselves out of here tomorrow.

As soon as we were set up I went to bed again for a couple of hours, then got up and had a shower at the campground showers. Then I went through our receipts again for border crossing and I think they are now organized. I also input April expenses into my spreadsheet.

I decided I wasn't going to set things up for cooking tonight so we went into Canandaigua to have a look around. We were told at the office that it was a nice little town. So we went into town to Wendy's where I had the southwest salad and Gordon had chili and a burger minus the bun. There was a lot of tomato and cheese involved in my salad. It's really a pain to eat out these days!

We plan to be home tomorrow so wish us luck with the border crossing!

We Made It to Erie, PA

Morning-32F (0C) (Delaware, OH)
Afternoon-61F (16C) (Erie, PA)

We didn't rush this morning waiting for things to warm up a bit before we started doing the outside work to get on the road.

We were on the road at 10:30 a.m. 59F (15C), bright and sunny. We had an uneventful drive and reached Erie around 2:30 p.m. As soon as we were set up, I went to bed for a couple of hours as I was fading fast.

It's a long drive

We're getting there

The trees aren't in bud yet

Now in Pennsylvania!

Our site - same as last year this time

I got up to make dinner as I needed to eat. I drank some orange juice this morning, bad move so I had reflux to cope with today as well as the cold.

The plan is to do a short trip tomorrow to the Rochester, NY KOA and then travel home on Sunday. Hopefully I'll feel better by then.

Sick

I woke up feeling really awful this morning so we decided to stay here an extra day. I just couldn't face breaking down the trailer, making lunches and getting on the road for five hours only to have to set up again. I spent most of the day in bed under my electric blanket. I haven't felt this bad in a long, long time!

It looked like a really beautiful day though, nice sunshine for a change!

As I'm writing this, I've had a shower and feel somewhat better so hopefully we'll be on the road in the morning.

We had the salmon, wild rice and key lime bars that Michelle fixed for us yesterday for dinner. It was amazing and I couldn't even taste most of it!

Our Last Day in the Columbus, OH area

Morning-40F-cloudy, damp
Afternoon-46F-rainy, misty

Today was not a good day, I woke up with a sore throat and broke down and took some Contac as well as extra Vitamin C and it doesn't seem to have worked! When we were at Gordon's daughter's this afternoon she gave me a garlic capsule which is supposed to help and I bought some Slippery Elm lozenges at the health food store. Hopefully I'll beat it but as of right now, it sure doesn't feel like it.

Anyway I did walk this morning then after breakfast we got ready to go to a store that's fairly close to us called Raisin Rack. Michelle recommended it highly for gluten free foods. On the way we stopped at a park called Sharon Woods. It would be a nice spot if it wasn't raining. We bought a couple of items there. Then to Taco Bell for lunch, then Whole Foods, didn't buy much there, the Bank and then I dropped Gordon at Michelle's and went off on my own to Walmart and Meijer. I wasn't gone long as I wasn't really feeling up to shopping today.

Path at Sharon Woods - we didn't walk on it though

Here are some pictures that our granddaughter, Faith drew for us today. Sorry I didn't feel much like taking photos of grandchildren today.

This is Faith's rendition of the t-shirt we bought her at Padre Island

I think she said this was a fish hat - what can I tell you, she's still 5!

We filled up with diesel on our way home at 2.17.9. That might be the best price we see in a while.

Michelle prepared us a dinner to go of wild rice, salmon, green beans and key lime bars. She is quite the cook and enjoys it. We're saving it for our dinner tomorrow night when we're on the road.

Rainy, Damp, Cool Day

Morning-45F (7C) raining
Afternoon-52F (11C) cloudy with some rain on and off

It was pouring rain when I got up this morning so no walk for me. After breakfast and some computer time, I lay down on the couch to read.

This afternoon I got all our receipts together to go through them in preparation for crossing the border in a couple of days. We will be paying big time this year!

We stayed in all day only going out to the campground showers to take advantage of their hot water and water pressure. Gordon needed some rest as he was quite sick last night but seems better today.

No photos today, too much rain!

Visiting Michelle's family

Morning-39F (4C) - cloudy
Afternoon-50F (15C)-rainy

It wasn't raining yet when I got up but there is rain coming so I set out on my walk. I walked along some of the pathways to Alum Creek. There aren't many leaves on the trees here yet.

This morning I finally got the laundry done here at the campground. That was another job I've been putting off. Certainly wasn't the cheapest place to do laundry either!

After that I had lunch and a nap and midafternoon we went over to Gordon's daughter, Michelle's house. Faith was home from school and Grace arrived shortly after. Luke was still asleep. He and Michelle have had colds this week. Eric was at work.

Things got a little hectic for a while with the kids stealing Grandpa's baseball hat and then hiding it but eventually that toned down.

The girls are fooling around with Grandpa's baseball caps

We had a wonderful dinner that Michelle prepared of roast beef, whipped potatoes and peas. She had also made Gordon's favourite - his mother's butterscotch pie recipe with gluten free crust. She also made quite a few different cookies all from scratch for him to bring home as well as various other crackers, cookies etc that she has tried from the store.

We're stuffed and tired but thanks so much Michelle for going to all that work!

Now at Cross Creek Camping Resort in Delaware, OH

Morning-31F (-0.5C)
Afternoon-56F (13C)

I got up at about 7:30 this morning. It was COLD!! Instead of my walk I started getting ready to travel today so made our lunches. After breakfast and some computer time we packed up and left Cedarbrook Campground around 10:30 a.m. heading for north Columbus where we stay at a campground called Cross Creek Camping Resort. The address of the campground is Delaware. OH. It was very sunny but still chilly when we left at 46F (8C).

We headed north on I-71 and continued through downtown Columbus. Being Easter Sunday the traffic wasn't bad. We arrived at our destination around 12:30 p.m. and were set up by 1:15 p.m. They have good wifi here and we can get enough TV channels that setting up the TV dish isn't warranted. The office was closed today for Easter Sunday so we just picked a site and set up. We were getting set up when a guy came and gave us a form to fill out and drop off in the slot at the office. We'll pay tomorrow.

The sign on this barn has always caught my eye

As soon as we were done setting up I set off to get some groceries and things. I'd been putting it off for a few days so I was glad to see that Meijer and Walmart were open on Easter Sunday.

I got back around 3:30 p.m. and went over the campground for a shower. They have nice clean showers here with good water pressure and hot water.

So that's about it for my day. We're here until Thursday as the next three days are supposed to be rainy. Tomorrow we'll be heading over to Dublin to see Gordon's daughter and family.
