It was warmer this morning at 13C (55F) but cloudy when I got up. There was still some mist on the river too. Before long the sun came peeking through and it turned into another lovely day.
The folks on the cottage road where Betty and Garth have their cottage have a corn roast every year and we're usually here for it. It's a potluck sort of thing. I had made up my Calico Beans yesterday as our contribution and also as something that Gordon can eat (but I can't due to the tomato sauce on the beans and the ketchup in the recipe).
I decided to go to the cottage after lunch and plug in the crockpot there so Gordon dropped me off and came back to the RV then returned for the corn roast. I spent the afternoon with Betty.
We went for a walk and saw this chain saw art. The tree fell during a bad storm about a month ago so they decided not to cut it down entirely. These bears are the result.
The tree also fell on the old Titanium. This is their new one. Luckily they had replacement insurance.
This is Bob, the resident seagull. He is very territorial and keeps all the other seagulls away.
Gordon arrived around 4:30 p.m. and we headed over to the corn roast around 6 p.m. The food was just starting to arrive and what a lot of food there was. I didn't even eat any corn! The dessert table was something to behold. I think I have acute chocolate poisoning! As usual, I ate far too much!

They even had a sign this year-that's Garth and Gordon standing in front of it

Friday September 4, 2009-Washing the RV
This morning while bright and sunny still had some fog over the river when I went for my walk so I snapped a few photos.
Our site now that we have a neighbour
Mist over the lake
Fishermen on the lake
Path in the campground
Paintings as part of the deck
After breakfast, Gordon and I got busy washing the RV. Using our little four foot ladder is nearly useless to be able to get any elbow grease near the top so we used the picnic table with the ladder on top of it. I think we'll be getting a longer ladder soon. Just hope we're able to fasten it to the rear ladder on the RV for transport. It's quite a job! We broke for lunch and then back at it. All in all it took about 3 1/2 hours.
I sat outside for a while and read but the campground is filling up so came inside to nap and read. Then I made my Calico Beans recipe for the cornroast tomorrow night. The people on the cottage road where Betty and Garth have their cottage put on a cornroast every year and it's kind of a potluck thing. So they are now cooking away in the crockpot.
Today was a gorgeous day, perfect for washing the RV, not too hot and no humidity. It did reach 27C (80F) in the afternoon. The nights do get cool. It was only 9C (48F) when I got up this morning.

Thursday September 3, 2009-Hanging Around the Campground
I was tired when I woke up this morning. Two nights of not very good sleep doesn't help. I went on my morning walk anyway since I hadn't gone for the last two mornings.
After breakfast I went in to town to get some groceries. I also drove out to a grocery that I've only been to once before as they have really good steaks that are fairly inexpensive. We don't eat much red meat but I thought I'd buy us a few as a treat.
Yesterday Betty had suggested that I come to the cottage today but I was just too tired so I called her and told her I'd see her another day. Our days here are winding down however. A week from today we'll be on our way back to Ottawa.
The maintenance guy was mowing around the RV today but he doesn't get really close to it so I asked if I could borrow his lawnmower when he was finished. He even moved the picnic table for me so I could mow. Now things look much better.
I spent the afternoon either sitting out in my lawnchair or napping and reading inside. It was a great day!
This was our site until we got neighbours late this afternoon

Wednesday September 2, 2009-Back in Lindsay
Today was an absolutely gorgeous day. We reached a high of 26C (78F) with a light breeze.
This morning Betty and I hung around her condo getting some laundry done. Then we went to the closest mall to her condo called Cloverdale. Betty bought some sneakers and a T-shirt and I bought a shirt for Gordon. We had coffee and a muffin for lunch and shortly after 1 p.m. we headed back to Lindsay arriving a bit after 3 p.m.
This is the menagerie on Betty's kitchen table - from her safari in Kenya
We all had one of these artist renditions of our family home where we were born and raised. Gordon took the photo and did the art treatment. Ours of course went when we sold the house so I took a photo of Betty's today.
Gordon's new shirt in his favourite colour
Gordon had arrived about 1/2 hr before me so he was here to welcome me home!
Gordon brought back photos taken of my younger sister and her family by a photographer. I took a photo of the photo.
I had a good time. It's nice to see Toronto once in a while however I'm looking forward to sleeping in my own bed tonight!
Tonight after dinner, I found a surprise in the refrigerator. My sister had sent me some Raspberry Fluff from Ottawa. This is a dessert that my mother often made so we had some for dessert tonight. Thanks, Margie!

Tuesday September 1, 2009-To Toronto
We left Double M Campground around 10:45 a.m. and arrived in Toronto around 12:30 p.m. Above is a photo of Betty's condo building as we were coming off the freeway.
Gordon was heading to Ottawa for a CT scan and was going to have dinner with my sister, Margie and her family and stay there overnight.
After dropping off stuff at the condo we headed out for an afternoon of shopping at Sherway Gardens. We spent about four hours there and didn't buy anything.
Betty had made arrangements for her friends, Bonnie and Diane to join us. She wasn't able to talk to either one of them directly so left messages. Bonnie knew we were coming but Diane didn't. Both of them showed up at The Pickle Barrel at the Mall for our dinner get together. I had an absolutely scrumptious piece of fish with a lovely sauce served on some kind of rice. It was very, very good!
Here's Betty and Bonnie at the restaurant
And Diane and I ( I haven't seen Diane in ages )
And the four of us taken by our waiter
We're now back at the condo winding down.

Monday August 31, 2009-August Expenses & Ken Reid Conservation Area
We had another pretty good month so I won't comment on the expenses.
There was mist on the river this morning.
This morning I went in to town to pick up some things and get my hair cut again. It seems like I just got it cut but she took a good inch off.
When I got back, I suggested to Gordon that we go to Ken Reid Conservation area and see if there were any osprey in the nest.
On our way we decided to go by the office of the guy that supplied our internet satellite. He wasn't there but we learned a bunch of information on the new I-Coach that they have developed along with Telus. Very interesting, we're talking. It would be nice to replace the satellite dish. It's bulky and it limits us with needing a clear view of the south to set it up. I-Coach is pretty new technology.
After that, we headed off to Ken Reid. Here's the osprey nest but no osprey. There was a belted kingfisher standing on the end of it though.

Lots of goldenrod around
Now, we're relaxing!

Sunday August 30, 2009-Laundry Day
Today was mostly cloudy and windy with a brief period of rain. I took my camera with me on my walk this morning.
Froggies on someone's lawn
Lots of birds down by the boat slips
One of the seasonals building a new deck
I decided today would be a good day to get the laundry done so I packed up and took it up to the campground laundry at lunch time. There was one dryer going when I arrived and that person never did arrive to pick up their laundry while I was there so when I went to use the dryers I took it out since the dryer had stopped and put it in the laundry basket that was there. I don't know why people don't watch their laundry. I really hate removing people's laundry from the dryers but I'm not about to wait for them to show up either. There is no place to sit in the laundry room except a small uncomfortable bench so I either take a lawn chair or sit in the truck.
I remember a time in an RV park in Surrey, BC where a man was really upset with me for removing his laundry. These laundry rooms at campgrounds are small and I say if you don't want someone to remove it, you should be there watching it.
That's my rant for today.
After unpacking clothes I lay down with my book and of course, had a nap.
We had some sun come out late in the afternoon but it looks like the next few days will be bright and sunny.
I took this one from the bottom step of our RV. Almost everyone is gone and we have a wide open view.
