Friday January 22, 2009-Snowy Owls

I was up at 6:10 a.m. today. Nancy and another lady ride to work together but Nancy had an appointment this morning so we took her to her appointment and then dropped her at work.

Then we went in search of the snowy owl. As you can see, we found one! Actually we saw another one but he was far away on the roof of a barn. I saw him through my binoculars. Even Gordon's camera couldn't get a good close up of the one on the barn roof. They are indeed a majestic creature. This one came flying toward us as we drove down the country road and landed on top of a pole right beside the road. He let us walk pretty close to him before flying away.

The frost was very heavy on the trees and poles this morning which made for some beautiful scenery.

There was even some frost on this old barn.

You can see how thick it was from this close up.

Frosty trees along a frozen river.

We got home around 2 p.m. and I went for a long nap! Not used to getting up at those early hours anymore since we're not traveling!

We had fun!

  4. Those winter pics bring back lots of winter memories. It's a beauty all it's own. I wouldn't mind visiting a sunny winter's day now & again but do not want to have to live in it any time soon again!!

  5. Beautiful snowy owl. What a nice picture. Very pretty winter pictures. Especially like the one of the old building. Looks like you are "making lemonade" from your situation this winter. Enjoy it as best you can.

  8. Sandra, those are beautiful pictures! You have to admit you probably wouldn't see that owl in Arizona! (And have you checked the weather reports for down there lately? -- they are having an early monsoon season.) Stilll, no doubt it is much warmer!! Anyway, I love that you are taking advantage of "where you're planted" right now. We are trying to do the same.
